IRVING, Texas (AP) -Dallas Cowboys tight end Martellus Bennett put two rap videos on YouTube this week – one that got him in trouble with the team, then another apologizing for it.
“Why they hating on me? It was just a song. I was only rapping. I ain’t do nothing wrong,” Bennett raps in his follow-up performance.
Bennett reportedly was fined $22,647 – which is one game check for next season – for his previous video, which used derogatory terms for blacks and gays and brags about having Jerry Jones’ money. He wore a Cowboys helmet and had a drink during the performance, which has been removed from YouTube.
Bennett’s agent, Kennard McGuire, did not return a call seeking comment. The Cowboys would not confirm or deny the reports. “We don’t discuss fines or disciplinary action within the team,” team spokesman Rich Dalrymple said Thursday.
ght 20 passes for 283 yards and four touchdowns. He also earned a lot of air time on “Hard Knocks,” HBO’s behind-the-scenes show about Dallas’ training camp last summer. He has another video on the Internet talking about how well he could cover LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and other NBA players.
In the latest edition of what he calls “Marty B TV,” Bennett blames the media for getting him in trouble and says too much was made of it.
“I didn’t shoot a man, I didn’t make a bomb. I don’t hang with thugs, I wasn’t doing drugs. I wasn’t using guns. It was only fun. I mean, c’mon dog, it was just a song. One crazy verse. It could’ve been worse. I mean, I did curse. But I didn’t see a hearse,” he raps.
At the end, he says, “I just want to say I’m sorry, sincerely, to all my fans, my people out there, everyone who supported me through the whole thing. … Hopefully y’all were laughing with me and not at me, or at me but with me.”
