INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – The Colts defense has figured out how to stop the run just in time to make a playoff push.
With a win over Tennessee this weekend, Indianapolis will wrap up its seventh AFC South title in eight years.
And the reason they’re in position to win the division title again is simple: Indy is suddenly running the ball effectively and stopping the run even better.
Over the last three weeks, the Colts have outgained opponents 433-268 on the ground and those numbers came against three of the league’s top 10 rushers – Chris Johnson, Maurice Jones-Drew and Darren McFadden.
If the defense does it again in Sunday’s rematch with Johnson, the Colts are likely to earn a ninth straight playoff berth, tying the NFL record.
