TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) – Derek Anderson was thrust into the starting role just before the season when the Arizona Cardinals decided Matt Leinart wasn’t their quarterback of the future.
After three ho-hum games, a big question looms: Is Anderson the right choice?
The Cardinals are 2-1 but Anderson hasn’t been particularly sharp, overthrowing receivers and missing potential scoring opportunities.
A Pro Bowler with Cleveland in 2007, Anderson has thrown for three touchdowns and three interceptions. His completion rate of 52 percent is third-worst in the NFL.
With Leinart in Houston as a backup, the Cardinals either need Anderson to play better or will have to turn to unproven rookie Max Hall.
