CLEVELAND (AP) -Overlooked and underused in Denver, Browns running back Peyton Hillis has become an unlikely football hero for the Browns.
On the brink of breaking 1,000 yards, Hillis, acquired in an offseason trade with the Broncos, has captured the hearts of this football-crazed city with his throwback, smashmouth running style. Hillis is being embraced by Browns fans, who identify with his no-nonsense approach.
In just 11 games, he’s become something of a legend with not only his performances, but also stories about his offseason hunting trips to kill wild boars back home in Arkansas.
Last week, Hillis rushed for 131 yards and three touchdowns against Carolina, giving him 11 rushing scores this season to join Hall of Famers Jim Brown and Leroy Kelly as the only Cleveland backs to reach that feat in one season.
