BEREA, Ohio (AP) -Ready to tackle Cleveland’s long list of problems, George Kokinis took over as the Browns new general manager on Monday.
Reunited with his close friend, Browns coach Eric Mangini, Kokinis said he will have final say over Cleveland’s 53-man roster. The 41-year-old Kokinis, who began his NFL career as an intern with the Browns when Mangini was a ballboy for the club, declined to appraise the club’s current makeup.
Kokinis, Baltimore’s director of pro personnel the past six seasons, said his longtime friendship with Mangini will allow the management team to make sound decisions for the Browns. Cleveland finished 4-12 last season and have the No. 5 overall pick in April’s draft.
Mangini recommended Kokinis to Browns owner Randy Lerner.
