ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) -Buffalo rookie tight end Shawn Nelson was inactive Sunday because of a strained shoulder, leaving the Bills with just two tight ends for their game against New Orleans.
Buffalo relied on backups Derek Fine and Jonathan Stupar after starting tight end Derek Schouman was placed on season-ending injured reserve after sustaining a serious knee injury in last week’s win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
New Orleans was without top running back Mike Bell (sprained knee), receiver Lance Moore (right hamstring) and defensive tackle Kendrick Clancy (right knee).
Bell has rushed for 229 yards and a touchdown in New Orleans’ first two games.
The Saints also promoted quarterback Chase Daniel from the practice squad and released center Nick Leckey. Daniel was the team’s third quarterback Sunday.
