ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) -Buffalo safety George Wilson was taken to the hospital Sunday after he fractured two ribs in the Bills’ 38-17 victory over Miami.
Wilson, a converted receiver, was injured on a kick return in the first quarter. He came back for a couple of defensive plays, but left in the second quarter. Coach Dick Jauron said Wilson went to the hospital for precautionary measures.
Jauron didn’t have a timetable as to how long Wilson might be out.
“There’s a guy that has so much heart and he was so disappointed that he was injured,” Jauron said. “He even expressed to me that he felt like he was letting us down.”
Wilson scored his second touchdown of the season on the Dolphins’ third series of the game to give Buffalo a 21-0 lead. Quarterback John Beck’s attempted throw slipped out of his right hand and landed right in Wilson’s grasp, and he went 20 yards for the score.
He also scored in Buffalo’s loss to Dallas, taking Tony Romo’s errant throw into the end zone for a 25-yard touchdown.
Jim Leonhard filled in for Wilson the rest of the game. It was Leonhard’s injury against the New York Jets that helped Wilson into the starting lineup. Wilson had started the last nine games.
“That’s a huge loss for us,” strong safety Donte Whitner said. “I just hope the extent of his injury is not season-ending and he can be back out there soon.”
