ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) -Bills starting middle linebacker Kawika Mitchell did not return after being carted off the field with a right knee injury early in the second quarter against Cleveland on Sunday.
Mitchell was hurt when he was bowled over by two Browns linemen while attempting to tackle running back Jerome Harrison on a sweep left on Sunday. Mitchell lay on the field for several minutes and was unable to put any weight on his right leg as he was lifted onto the cart.
The Bills had shifted Mitchell to the middle this week to take over for Marcus Buggs, who struggled the past three games filling in for injured starter Paul Posluszny (broken left arm). The switch was an attempt to bolster a run defense that had allowed 472 yards and six touchdowns rushing in its past two games.
Buggs replaced Mitchell against Cleveland.
Without providing details on the injury, the Bills announced Mitchell would not return.
Browns defensive end Kenyon Coleman hurt his groin and his return was questionable.
