CINCINNATI (AP) – Rookie Giovani Bernard put a little dash into the Bengals’ running game during an opening loss at Chicago. The Bengals are really going to need him in their next one.
Cincinnati (0-1) hosts the Pittsburgh Steelers (0-1) on Monday night, a game that features two teams trying to get a lot more out of their running games.
Last December, the Bengals went to Pittsburgh and were held to 14 yards on 16 carries. They drafted Bernard in the second round to give them more of an outside threat to go along with power back BenJarvus Green-Ellis.
The position is evolving as offensive coordinator Jay Gruden figures ways to blend the two of them together in the backfield.
