CINCINNATI (AP) -Bengals linebacker Keith Rivers was leveled on a hit by Steelers receiver Hines Ward and left the game Sunday with a jaw injury.
Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger completed a pass to Matt Spaeth on the fourth play of the game. As Rivers closed in on the tight end, Ward sprinted over from a few yards away and knocked the rookie linebacker down with a straight-up hit. Rivers sat on the field for several moments before walking off under his own power.
The Bengals didn’t expect Rivers to return. Rivers, a first-round draft pick, is the Bengals’ second-leading tackler.
