CINCINNATI (AP) – The Bengals have fired longtime offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski, the first change in their coaching staff following a 4-12 season.
Bratkowski has been offensive coordinator since 2001, two years before Marvin Lewis took over as coach.
Bratkowski’s dismissal on Monday was the first notable change in a team having a turbulent offseason. Quarterback Carson Palmer is demanding a trade because he thinks the franchise can’t win.
Cincinnati has finished with a winning record twice in the last 20 years.
The Bengals won the AFC North in 2009 with a run-based offense that Lewis prefers. Their inability to throw the ball in the playoffs prompted a change to a more pass-oriented approach that failed last season.
