SAN DIEGO (AP) -A person familiar with the deal says running back Ryan Mathews has signed a five-year, $25.65 million contract with the San Diego Chargers, with just more than $15 million in guaranteed money.
The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the club hadn’t made an announcement.
Mathews is the heir apparent to LaDainian Tomlinson, who was released in the offseason and then signed with the New York Jets.
Mathews was the 12th pick in the draft, out of Fresno State.
