NEW ORLEANS (AP) -Pierre Thomas’ agent says the Saints have made only one contract offer since the Super Bowl and that the two sides are far apart.
Agent Lamont Smith says Thomas, a restricted free agent, is in the prime of his career after playing his first three NFL seasons at the league’s minimum salary.
Thomas has been the Saints’ leading rusher the past two seasons and scored key touchdowns in the Saints’ NFC championship and Super Bowl victories.
Smith says Thomas is not seeking as much as the $8 million-plus per year that St. Louis running back Steven Jackson’s contract pays. However, Smith says that with many running backs’ careers ending soon after age 30, Thomas needs to secure his financial future now.
