Vikings vs. Chiefs Week 9 Prediction
The Vikings are laying 3.5 points on the road to the Patrick Mahomes-less Chiefs on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET. Should bettors take the field goal and hook with Kansas City or is the smart money on Minnesota to cover?
Game Snapshot
459 Minnesota Vikings (-3.5) at 460 Kansas City Chiefs (+3.5); O/U 47
1:00 p.m. ET, Sunday, November 3, 2019
Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City, MO

Minnesota Vikings Fantasy Spin
Adam Thielen (questionable, hamstring) is a game-time decision for Week 9 against the Chiefs. The Vikings want to work out Thielen pre-game before they make a decision on his status. Thielen had a sleeve on his leg during his limited practice week and isn’t a lock to return. He’s been pushing to play, but the Vikings may not want to risk a setback. Thielen won’t be 100 percent if he suits up
Kansas City Chiefs Fantasy Spin
ESPN’s Ed Werder reports there’s “a chance” Patrick Mahomes (knee) plays Week 9 against the Vikings. Werder notes that Mahomes will be a game-time decision, something that was assumed when the Chiefs listed Mahomes as questionable. The fact that Mahomes is even trying to play this week is a good sign for the Chiefs overall, but Matt Moore is still more likely to start after receiving first-team reps at practice this week while Mahomes practiced in a limited fashion. We should know who is starting 90 minutes before kickoff at the latest.
Minnesota
The Vikings are 3-11 against the spread in their last 14 games when facing an opponent with a winning record.
Kansas City
The Chiefs are just 1-4 against the spread in their last five home games and are 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 games when facing an opponent with a winning record.
NFL Week 9 Prediction
I don’t expect Mahomes to suit up despite Werner’s report that he could return in Week 9. If he does return, I still like the Vikings because of the matchup with their running game versus the Chiefs’ run defense. Minnesota’s offensive line has improved greatly and Dalvin Cook has benefited greatly. He’s having a breakout season and will face a Chiefs defense that ranks dead last in Pro Football Focus’ run defense grade. Plus, even if Kansas City sells out to stop the run, Kirk Cousins has played out of his mind the past three weeks, sparking a passing game that should get Thielen back on Sunday.
