3 Teams on Upset Alert in NFL Week 4
Virtually every week throughout the NFL season we see major upsets, as well as good teams that teetered on the brink of disaster.
Week 4 has three teams that are susceptible to an upset so let’s discuss these potentially shocking circumstances below as we lock down our NFL picks!
Tennessee Titans vs. New York Jets
Sunday, October 3, 2021 – 1:00 PM ET at MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ
It’s almost absurd, well, come to think of it, maybe absurd is the right adjective, to even toy with the Jets upsetting a playoff-caliber team like the Titans. After all, the oddsmakers are giving the Jets 7 ½ points and most people are still betting Tennessee despite the line rising a point and a half since the opener, and crossing the all-important seven.
SBR Picks has an NFL Week 4 Parlay and it includes this game but I’ll focus on why the Jets can surprise this weekend. The Titans are overrated and they will be traveling to the Big Apple more concerned about New York nightlife than the team they will be playing on Sunday. It’s hard to blame them but we should consider that the Jets offense will have a much easier time of it than they have had against their first three opponents. This Titans defense is soft and once Zach Wilson gets a groove going, things could get mighty interesting.
Upset Alert: Jets +7 ½ (-110) or +290 on the moneyline at Intertops
Carolina Panthers vs. Dallas Cowboys
Sunday, October 3, 2021 – 1:00 PM ET at AT&T Stadium, Arlington, TX
It is not surprising that Dallas fans are still giddy about their Monday night performance but that euphoria could very well come to an abrupt end on Sunday. Let’s understand that the Cowboys will be working on a short week and facing a much tougher defense on Sunday than the moribund Eagles that played the matador defense all game long until they exited with a 41-21 loss stamped on their record.
This week won’t be nearly that easy for Dak Prescott and company as the Carolina Cats are no joke this season and Sam Darnold has had a career renaissance away from the Poison Apple and Adam Gase. The Panthers are coming off of a 24-9 victory over the Texans, and while that might not give you a great deal of comfort knowing that they can beat the bums of the league, their 10 points allowed per game should give you cause for pause.
The Cowboys will still be reveling in their victory over a divisional foe and will meet another divisional rival next week when they play the Giants. They may not be focusing entirely on the matter at hand which could give the Panthers a golden opportunity to cover the number, if not win the game outright.
Upset Alert: Panthers +5 (-110) or +180 on the moneyline at Bovada
Arizona Cardinals vs Los Angeles Rams
Sunday, October 3, 2021 – 4:05 PM ET at LA Memorial Coliseum, Los Angeles, CA
This is setting up to be a perfect spot for the uber-talented Cardinals to take a bite out of the undefeated Rams. As we all know, Los Angeles is hot off the heels of an epic win over the defending Super Bowl champion Buccaneers and will have to play again on Thursday night after they get done with this matchup.
There might not be a better pass/catch combo in the league than Kyler Murray to DeAndre Hopkins but that doesn’t mean Christian Kirk, AJ Green, and rookie Rondale Moore are just spare parts to this vertical offense. This is a devastating arsenal of targets for Murray, while the tailback tandem of Chase Edmonds and James Conner isn’t too shabby either.
We know that the Rams have several defensive studs on their roster who obviously did enough to contain Tom Brady and the Bucs last week in their 34-24 victory. But there is often a letdown that comes after a seismic victory and the Cardinals are the kind of team that can take full advantage of any malaise that might result because of it. Don’t be surprised if the Redbirds soar on Sunday in La La.
Upset Alert: Cardinals +4 ½ (-108) or +185 on the moneyline at Heritage
