Texans’ Clowney to be active Week 1

Although he won’t start versus the Chiefs on Sunday, Jadeveon Clowney is expected to be active for the Texans in Week 1.

The 2014 No. 1 overall pick was held out of practice with a knee injury until August 20 but Clowney’s recovery is on track and he will be in uniform this Sunday when the Texans host the Chiefs at 1:00PM ET. Coach Bill O’Brien isn’t sure if Clowney will be on a snap count for the opener, but even having him rush the passer in sub packages would be a huge benefit for Houston.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Texans are 1.5-point home favorites versus the Chiefs in Week 1 while the over/under is currently sitting at 42 points.

The road team is 5-1 against the spread in the last six meetings between these two teams.
