Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Patriots are 2-point favorites to beat the Rams in Super Bowl LIII. At some books, the Rams opened as a 1-point favorite but with money flooding in on the Patriots, the line jumped the fence and kept going. Considering the moneyline odds on New England at -2 are now up to -115, the point spread likely isn’t done climbing either.
Bettors online are also crushing the Patriots. As of this writing, 85% of the betting tickets wagered at online sportsbooks and 89% of the money are on the Patriots. With that much action streaming in on New England both in Vegas and online, it’s not inconceivable that the spread climbs to 3, although at that point the sharps may come in on the Rams.
As for the total, it opened at 58.5 but was bet down to 58. Most public bettors love taking the over but at least online, 59% of the betting tickets and 67% of the money is coming in on the under. The Patriots-Chiefs game was steadily pacing under until the fourth quarter when the two teams combined to score over 30 points in those final 15 minutes alone. Perhaps anyone who took the under in the AFC Championship Game has an opportunity to get their money back in the Super Bowl.
The Patriots are 5-1 against the spread in their last six games versus the Rams but the underdog has covered in five of the last seven meetings between these two teams. The Rams are a perfect 4-0 against the spread in their last four games while the Patriots have covered in nine of their last 12 playoff games.
