Super Bowl 50 Total Pick
Super Bowl 50 features two great defensive units as the Carolina Panthers face the Denver Broncos. Will the defenses live up to the hype or struggle?
According to oddsmakers at RealBets, the Panthers are the current favorite in this game, as Carolina is getting odds of -5 points against the Broncos. The over/under total for the contest has been set at 44 points.
Carolina is 17-1 on the season, 13-5 against the spread and 12-5-1 with the over. Denver is 14-4 overall, 9-8-1 against the spread and 11-6-1 with the under. These two don’t have much history against each other, as each is 2-2 against the spread in four meetings, but they are 2-1-1 with the under in their four meetings. The Broncos come in hitting the under in both playoff games while Carolina has went with the over in both of their games, thanks in part to some defensive scoring.
Denver has gone under in 11 of their 18 games this season. That’s because they own the league’s number one defense, led by Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware. But the Broncos are more than just a pass rush, as cornerback Aqib Talib is a lockdown corner. Carolina will struggle offensively because they won’t be able to run the ball as successfully on the Broncos. But on the other hand, the Panthers offer a dominant run defense led by linebacker Luke Kuechly. Peyton Manning will need to be conservative against a team that led the league in turnover margin.
