NFL Super Bowl Futures Report
NFL bettors went nuts over KC in Week 1. They pounded the Patriots from -7.5 favorites all the way to -9 favorites.
Most of us know what happened. Kansas City destroyed New England 42 to 27. Those NFL bettors who had money on KC ran to the betting windows. While those who had bet on New England tore up their virtual tickets.
Online bookies should have had max betting limits on this game since the Pats were the clear favorites. Those bookies who didn’t take the effort to even out the bets on both sides, walked away laughing – and lucky.
So, what happened? I attempt to answer that question while discussing where the money might be going on other Super Bowl 52 contenders.
Updated Super Bowl 52 Odds
New England Patriots +450
Almost amazingly, the New England Patriots, who won Super Bowl 51, entered NFL Week 1 as a +375 favorite to win Super Bowl 52. The Patriots are still the favorites to win Super Bowl 52.
Only Patriots fans that truly believe should bet on the Pats at +450 to win the Lombardi Trophy after their Week 1 performance. The odds are way underlaid.
New England just isn’t as good this season as they were last season. They failed to get much of a pass rush on Alex Smith.
If you want to jump on the Pats at the odds, wait to see how the D-Line performs against Saints QB Drew Brees this Sunday.
Green Bay Packers +750
The Packers looked good when beating Seattle 17 to 9. Green Bay’s defense came up huge against a talented Seattle offense. The Packers held Russell Wilson to 158 passing yards. They also sacked Russell 3 times.
Are the odds underlaid or overlaid on the Packers to win Super Bowl 52? I think they might be overlaid. Green Bay has a better shot of winning the NFC than Dallas, Atlanta, or Seattle.
Pittsburgh Steelers +750
7.5 to 1 odds on Pitt to raise the Lombardi Trophy constitute massively underlay odds. The Steelers’ defense doesn’t look all that great after watching Cleveland rookie QB DeShone Kizer throw for 222 yards and run for a TD.
Oakland Raiders +1000
At this point, Oakland might be the team to back to win the AFC. What it means is that double-digit betting odds constitute an overlay.
Why? Oakland’s defense held the Titans’ rushing offense, one of the best in the NFL, to only 95 rushing yards. If the D has caught up to Oakland’s crazy good offense, watch out!
Dallas Cowboys +1000
All NFL Super Bowl 52 Future bettors should look at Dallas’ 10 to 1 odds and consider them as being underlaid. The Boys only garnered a field goal against the Giants’ defense in the second half of their 19 to 3 win over NYG.
Not only that, but NYG wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. didn’t play.
Atlanta Falcons +1400
The odds are underlaid on Atlanta to win Super Bowl 52. The Falcons allowed the Chicago Bears to score 17 points against its defense.
If the D hasn’t improved from last season, Atlanta might not win the deep NFC South.
Kansas City Chiefs +1600
Professional bettors that make wagers on the Chiefs should jump at the 16 to 1 overlay odds. NFL bettors who watched the Chiefs demolish New England in Week 1 knows that KC is a complete team.
Jumping on them now will decrease the risk of having max betting limits set to keep sportsbooks balanced for bookies.
When the light switch turns on for good teams like Kansas City, the light often stays on for the entire season.
The odds on Kansas City should only drop as the season continues unless the team suffers a catastrophic injury to its offense. Back with confidence!
