Redskins’ 2014 Win Total Odds
LAS VEGAS, NV (The Spread) – With a healthy RGIII back under center, will the Washington Redskins win over or under 7.5 games in 2014?
The Redskins went through a major facelift this offseason, firing head coach Mike Shanahan and offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, and replacing them with Jay Gruden and Sean McVay, respectively. The team also made a splash in free agency, signing former Eagle DeSean Jackson, former Cowboy defensive tackle Jason Hatcher, and former Steeler safety Ryan Clark to deals. The Skins also signed potential starters Andre Roberts, Shawn Lauvao and Darry Sharpton, while adding roster depth in Tracy Porter, Colt McCoy, Mike McGlynn, Clifton Geathers, Adam Hayward and Akeem Jordan.
Among Washington’s free agent losses were cornerback Josh Wilson (Atlanta), receiver Josh Morgan (Chicago), center J.D. Walton (NY Giants) and linebacker Darryl Tapp (Detroit). The team also released center Will Montgomery, defensive end Adam Carriker, cornerback Ryan Mouton and running back Davin Meggett.
The Redskins once again didn’t have a first-round pick this year because of the compensation given to St. Louis in the RGIII trade. In the second the team took Stanford pass rusher Trent Murphy and in the third the Skins nabbed Virginia offensive tackle Morgan Moses and Nebraska guard Spencer Long. Fourth-rounder Bashaud Breeland of Clemson could find a role in sub packages this season while fifth-round selection Ryan Grant of Tulane should make the 53-man roster as receiving depth. One other notable selection was Baylor running back Lache Seastrunk in the sixth.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Redskins’ win total has been set 7.5 and I still like the under despite RGIII’s health projection. The defense still has plenty of holes (namely in the secondary) and I was shocked that the team hung onto coordinator Jim Haslett despite making changes at head coach and offensive coordinator. I love the addition of Jackson to an offense that is going to keep some defensive coordinators up at night, but the defense is going to limit this team to around 6-7 wins.
