Jets vs. Eagles Week 5 Prediction
In some respects, the Eagles may have saved their season last week with a road win at Green Bay. Now they’ll host the winless Jets on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET and while they should pick up another victory, will the Eagles cover as a heavy favorite?

463 New York Jets (+14) at 464 Philadelphia Eagles (-14); O/U 43.5

New York Jets Fantasy Spin
Sam Darnold (mono) is out for Week 5 against the Eagles. The Jets were hoping to have Darnold back after their Week 4 bye, but unfortunately he’s not as far as along as the team had hoped. The announcement comes as a mild surprise after Darnold saw most of New York’s first-team practice reps this week. While the mono has mostly subsided, Darnold lost significant weight during his illness and is also at risk of injuring his spleen if he takes a big hit. The Eagles defense should be an appealing streamer against Luke Falk, who struggled mightily in his starting debut against the Patriots in Week 3 (98 yards, one interception on 12-for-22 passing).
Philadelphia Eagles Fantasy Spin
DeSean Jackson (abdomen) is out for Week 5 against the Jets. Jackson hasn’t made much progress since straining his abdomen in Week 2. This will be his third straight absence. With D-Jax ailing, the Eagles will continue to roll with Alshon Jeffery, Nelson Agholor and Mack Hollins in three-wide sets.
NFL Betting Trends
New York
The Jets are 1-4-1 against the spread in their last six games overall and are just 2-5 against the number in their last seven games following a bye.
Philadelphia
The Eagles failed to cover the number in seven of their last nine games at Lincoln Financial Field but are 7-2 against the spread in their last nine games played in the month of October.
Prediction
If the Eagles were unbeaten heading into this weekend, I may have taken a flier on the Jets in a letdown spot for Philly. That said, with the Eagles only 2-2 and playing with a sense of urgency and desperation last Thursday at Lambeau, I don’t think we’ll see a letdown for Doug Pederson’s squad. The Jets enter Sunday as banged-up as they went into their bye last week. Linebacker C.J. Mosley (groin), receiver Demaryius Thomas (knee/hamstring) and offensive lineman Kelechi Osemele (Shoulder/knee) haven’t practiced all week and are unlikely to play, while Darnold will miss another week with mono. Carson Wentz and Co. should shred a New York pass defense that has struggled to start the season.
