According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Chiefs are 3-point favorites to beat the Patriots. The total, meanwhile, sits at 57 points. As of this writing, 52% of the public betting tickets are on the Chiefs to cover the point spread.
This will be a rematch of a Week 6 meeting in Foxborough where the Patriots outlasted the Chiefs, 43-40. New England opened as a 3.5-point favorite in that game and closed as a 4-point favorite so the Pats failed to cover. At kickoff, the Chiefs were receiving 51% of the betting tickets for that game so the action was fairly even.
As for the total, the number opened at 58 and climbed to 59 but the two teams easily cashed the over. In fact, all four of the last four meetings between these two teams has hit the over.
The Patriots are just 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games versus the Chiefs but are 17-8 against the number in their last 25 road games. They’ve also covered the spread in eight of their last 11 playoff games and are 38-17 at the betting window in their last 55 games overall. Simply put, it has been profitable to bet New England.
It has not been profitable, however, to bet Kansas City in the playoffs. Despite covering the 4.5-point spread on Saturday versus the visiting Colts, the Chiefs are still only 2-9 against the number in their last 11 playoff games and are 1-6 ATS in their last seven home playoff games. That said, they’re 1-0 both straight up and against the spread with Patrick Mahomes under center so perhaps this season will be different for Andy Reid and Co.
