49ers favored over Chargers
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (The Spread) – The San Francisco 49ers may be out of the playoff chase, but they will be looking to play spoiler tonight when they host the San Diego Chargers at 8:25PM ET on CBS.
San Francisco is coming off a 17-7 loss at Seattle last week. The 49ers have now lost three straight to fall to 7-7 on the season and they are now eliminated from playoff contention after three straight NFC Championship Game appearances. There is plenty of drama as well, mostly involving coach Jim Harbaugh and where he will be coaching next season. San Francisco is 6-7-1 against the spread on the year and they are 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 games.
San Diego is coming off a 22-10 loss to Denver last week at home. The Chargers have dropped back-to-back games to the Broncos and Patriots at home and are now 8-6 on the season. They are a game out of the wild card spot in the playoffs, with five teams all within a game of each other for two spots. San Diego is 6-8 against the spread this year and just 1-8 ATS in its last 9 games.
The oddsmakers like the 49ers at home, as oddsmakers from BetDSI have given the 49ers odds of -1.5 points against the Chargers tonight. The over/under total for the game has been set at 40.5 points (View Matchup). San Diego has won and covered the spread in its last three games with the 49ers, dating back to 2002.
Both offenses are lacking, with San Diego struggling to run the ball and San Francisco struggling to pass it. Both defenses have been solid, but the 49ers have the edge when it comes to the two defenses. San Francisco is allowing just 307.1 yards per game this season, while the Chargers are giving up 336.8 yards per game.
