Vikings vs. Rams Odds
ST. LOUIS, MO (The Spread) – The Mike Zimmer era begins for the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday when they hit the road to face the St. Louis Rams at 1PM ET on FOX.
The Vikings are coming off a 5-10-1 record in 2013, forcing a head-coaching change. The Rams went 7-9 a year ago in the stacked NFC West division. Minnesota has won three of its last four against St. Louis.
Trends show that these two have went over on the point total odds in seven of their last eight meetings. The Vikings comes in having covered the spread in their last four conference games while the Rams are just 1-6 against the spread in their last seven season openers.
According to oddsmakers from BetDSI, the Rams are favored at home, as they have a point spread of -4 against the Vikings on Sunday. The over/under total opened at 43.5 points (View Matchup). The opening odds for this game had St. Louis as a 5-point favorite. The spread climbed to a peak of 6.5 points and a low of 3.5 before settling in at St. Louis -4. The over/under total opened at 45.5 points and slowly fell to 43.5.
St. Louis had some high hopes for the season, but saw those altered when Sam Bradford suffer a torn ACL in a preseason game, putting him out for the season for the second consecutive year. The Rams will turn to Sean Hill to lead the offense this season. St. Louis does have a strong defense. The Rams have given up some yards in the past, but they have a great pass rush that amassed 53 sacks in 2013. The defense also tallied a total of 29 turnovers.
The Vikings should have a strong offense with Norv Turner joining the squad as offensive coordinator. Adrian Peterson is still in the backfield and quarterback Matt Cassel has an explosive receiver in Cordarrelle Patterson to work with. Defensively, Minnesota has to get a lot better, which should be the case under Zimmer. Minnesota allowed 287.2 passing yards per game last year, which ranked 31st in the NFL.
In terms of Injuries, St. Louis tackle Rodger Saffold (ankle) is questionable for the game while cornerback Trumaine Johnson (knee) is out. Minnesota receiver Jerome Simpson is out for the first four games with a suspension.
