Colts vs. Broncos Odds
DENVER, CO (The Spread) – Peyton Manning faces his old team on NBC Sunday Night Football, as the Denver Broncos host the Indianapolis Colts at 8:30PM ET.
Denver is coming off a 13-3 season in 2013, where it won the AFC West and was the AFC champion. Indianapolis was 11-5 last season, winning the AFC North and reaching the second round of the playoffs. The Colts have won six straight over the Broncos.
Trends show that the Colts have covered the spread in six straight against the Broncos and the two have hit the over in seven of their last eight meetings. The Colts come into this game having failed to cover in their last six season openers.
According to oddsmakers from BetDSI, Denver is the clear favorite at home, as the Broncos have odds of -7.5 points against the Colts. The over/under total for the game has been set at 55 points (View Matchup). The opening odds for this game had the Broncos favored by 7 points. The spread hit a peak of 9 points and a low of 6.5 before settling at Denver -7.5. The over/under total for the game opened at 55.5 points and then simply dipped to 55 and held there.
The Broncos were the second-best team in the NFL last season, but they were far from the best against Seattle. The team addressed the defense in the offseason, adding the likes of Aqib Talib and DeMarcus Ware. The offense still has Manning leading the way with his weapons, meaning the Broncos should have no issue scoring points. The team will be without Wes Welker tonight and for the first four games because of a suspension, but that just means more targets for the other receiving threats.
The Colts should be strong again this year as Andrew Luck continues to get better as a leader and a NFL quarterback. Luck threw for 3,822 yards and 23 touchdowns last year and those numbers could get better with Reggie Wayne and Dwayne Allen coming back from injuries. The offense need more from running back Trent Richardson this season. Richardson averaged just 2.9 yards per carry after being traded from the Browns to Indy early in 2013. The defense will again be led by Robert Mathis, who had a very impressive 2013, racking up 19.5 sacks and 59 tackles with eight forced fumbles.
In terms of Injuries, Denver guard Ben Garland (ankle) is out for Sunday night’s game. Indianapolis linebacker Erik Walden (abdominal) and safety Sergio Brown (shoulder) are both questionable for the game.
