Several underdogs produced surprising covers in Week 11 of the NFL. Here’s a betting recap of what teams covered and what teams failed bettors.

Raiders beat Bengals outright as 10-point underdogs

The Oakland Raiders pulled off the biggest surprise in Week 11 when they knocked off the Cincinnati Bengals 20-17 as 10-point underdogs. The Bengals fell into the classic trap of having a letdown game following an emotional victory over a division rival. The combined score in this game went over the posted total of 47 points.

Chiefs knock off defending champs

The Raiders’ upset of the Bengals perhaps took a backseat to the Kansas City Chiefs’ shocking 27-24 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers as 10.5-point favorites. The Chiefs returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown and then kept battling back throughout the game to pull off the victory. The combined score went over the posted total of 39.5.

Redskins lose, but cover vs. Cowboys

In a game many thought would turn out to be a blowout, the Dallas Cowboys barely edged out the Washington Redskins, 7-6 on Sunday. Washington could do little offensively, as could Dallas outside of their lone scoring drive. Both defenses deserve credit for playing well, but the offenses were horrible. The combined score obviously went under the posted total of 41.5.

Lions edge Browns in wild finish

In the wildest game on the Week 11 schedule, the Detroit Lions edged out the Cleveland Browns, 38-37. The Lions failed to cover as 3.5-point favorites, but won the game outright thanks to a pass interference call on a Cleveland defender. The penalty moved the ball to the 1-yard line with no time remaining on the clock (the game can’t end on a defensive penalty), and then rookie quarterback Matthew Stafford found Brandon Pettigrew in the end zone for the game-winning score.
