CHICAGO (AP) -Quarterback Kevin O’Brien threw for three touchdowns and running back Brian Mitchell rushed for two more to lead West Virginia State to a 47-13 win over Central State on Saturday at Soldier Field.
The win was a second straight of the season for the Yellow Jackets, who now have scored 114 points in two games. The Yellow Jackets of the Intercollegiate Athletic Conference scored 67 points in an opening week win over Lincoln University of Missouri.
Central State of Ohio fell to 0-2 on the season.
O’Brien connected on scoring tosses to Brandon Jones, Brandon Kennedy and Jermaine Key as the Yellow Jackets built a 37-7 lead during the Chicago Football Classic.
Greg Whissler added two field goals for West Virginia.
Central State scored in the first quarter on a 58-yard touchdown pass from Jeff Brooks to Daniel Stover. The Marauders of the Great Lakes Conference also scored late in the game on a 38-yard pass from Brandon Dunston to Tyrell Thompson.
