LOS ANGELES (AP) -Southern California coach Pete Carroll says All-America safety Taylor Mays will return from a knee injury Saturday against Washington State.
Mays is a bit less certain, putting his chances of playing at about “50-50,” he says.
The senior missed the first game of his college career last weekend when the 12th-ranked Trojans lost 16-13 at Washington. Mays had started every USC game since the first game of his freshman year, but couldn’t play in his hometown because of a sprained right knee ligament.
Mays has participated in practice this week, and so has freshman quarterback Matt Barkley.
Carroll said Tuesday that Barkley would start against the Cougars at the Coliseum. The coach said Barkley had his best day of practice Thursday.
