LOS ANGELES (AP) -UCLA quarterback Ben Olson will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Tuesday to check for a possible cartilage tear.
The school announced late Monday that Olson, injured in the first quarter of UCLA’s 20-6 loss to Notre Dame last weekend, has a partial tear of the lateral collateral ligament in his knee.
An estimate on how long Olson will be sidelined won’t be known until after Tuesday’s procedure, the school said.
The Bruins (4-2, 3-0 Pac-10) are off this weekend. They next play Oct. 20 against No. 2 California (5-0, 2-0) at the Rose Bowl. The Golden Bears entertain Oregon State this Saturday.
Patrick Cowan, Olson’s backup, is also sidelined with a knee injury. Walk-on McLeod Bethel-Thompson played most of the Notre Dame game at quarterback, but was ineffective.
