LOS ANGELES (AP) – UCLA offensive lineman Jeff Baca is out indefinitely after surgery on his broken left ankle.
The two-year starter was carted off the practice field Thursday when a teammate fell on him during spring drills. He had surgery Thursday night.
The Bruins haven’t determined whether Baca will be ready to return for fall camp.
Baca started eight games at left tackle as a freshman in 2008, and he played nearly every snap at left guard in 2009. He missed all of last season with academic problems and injury problems.
Stanley Hasiak and Connor Bradford are expected to replace Baca. The Bruins’ veteran offensive line is expected to be a strength after UCLA ranked 32nd in the nation in rushing offense last season.
