WACO, Texas (AP) -Baylor third-string quarterback Nick Florence is making his first career start against Kent State a week after standout Robert Griffin suffered a knee injury.
Backup Blake Szymanski was expected to start Saturday, but he missed significant practice time after sustaining a bruised throwing shoulder in relief of Griffin last weekend.
Szymanski mostly watched during pregame warmups and was in uniform at kickoff.
Griffin, who passed for 2,091 yards and 15 touchdowns as a freshman in 2008, will probably miss the rest of the season after he suffered an isolated tear in the ACL of his right knee during the Bears’ 68-13 victory over Northwestern State.
