FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) – TCU coach Gary Patterson always tries to get an early jump on preparing for Air Force’s triple-option offense.
There are times during spring drills and two-a-days dedicated simply to stopping the seldom-seen offense that can be so productive.
The lessons resumed about four weeks ago and the test comes Saturday night, when the fourth-ranked Horned Frogs (7-0) host Air Force (5-2), the nation’s top rushing offense with 347 yards per game.
Patterson says facing Air Force is a “three-hour mental drill.”
The Frogs have allowed only a field goal their last three games. They lead the nation in scoring defense, allowing 9.3 points a game and are second in total defense at 218 yards per game.
