State lawmakers across the country are considering tougher laws to crack down on rule-breaking sports agents who improperly contact college athletes.
At least eight states are considering proposals to strengthen the Uniform Athletes Agent Act. The model law has been on the books for decades in many places, but is not aggressively enforced in most states.
Those pushing for changes on the state level aren’t waiting for either the NFL or the NCAA to act. Those groups have joined the NFL Players Association, the American Football Coaches Association and several prominent agents in forming a 22-member panel tasked with cleaning up the situation with problem agents.
