BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) – Virginia Tech cornerback Victor Harris said Tuesday he believed the shots fired into his apartment over the weekend were random.
“I don’t have any enemies or nothing like that,” Harris told reporters following Tech’s practice. “The shootings were very random, and the police are looking into it.”
Three Tech students were in the off-campus apartment just before 4 a.m. Sunday when it was hit with at least two gunshots, but police said no one was injured. A sliding glass patio door was shot out and there were bullet holes in the wall and ceiling.
No one has been arrested, and Capt. Bruce Bradbery said Tuesday that police were looking for a small black car.
Officers recovered evidence that seven shots were fired from a 9 mm handgun – two of them into the apartment – and a single shotgun blast hit the front of the multi-unit apartment building.
“The front of the place was kind of riddled with bullets,” Bradbery said.
He added that there was damage to the interior.
Bradbery said police would not confirm the identity of the apartment’s occupant. “It’s horribly dangerous,” he said.
“What I know, I don’t think any of our people are involved here,” Beamer said. “That’s the last I’m talking about that until the police investigation is done.”
Harris, who goes by the nickname “Macho,” is a 6-foot, 203-pound junior from Richmond. He has started for the last two seasons at cornerback and this season leads the Atlantic Coast Conference in passes defended with 15, including four interceptions.
