TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) – No. 2 Alabama is still searching for the right offensive line combination, but coach Nick Saban isn’t accepting that as an excuse.
Barrett Jones is a preseason All-Southeastern Conference right guard. But he played on the left side at both tackle and guard and also saw time at center in the opener against Kent State.
That caused shuffling when freshman Cyrus Kouandjio ((kwan’-RO) came in at left tackle, where he’s being groomed as the future starter.
Saban says that doesn’t excuse what he called a lack of consistency on the front line. As he says, when you “whiff the linebacker, what does that have to do with who plays where?”
The Crimson Tide still physically handled Kent State, but faces a bigger test in a visit to Penn State.
