SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) – Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly called running back Cierre Wood a special player Tuesday. Wood sure looked that way last week against Purdue with 191 yards rushing.
Wood and Jonas Gray have given the Irish a solid running game to go with the pass catching of Michael Floyd. And the defense led by Manti Te’o has been steady and stingy during a three-game winning streak.
Notre Dame (3-2) will be tested by a different type of attack Saturday when it plays Air Force (3-1). The Falcons average 364 yards per game rushing and feature dual-threat quarterback Tim Jefferson in their modified option.
The teams haven’t played since 2007, when Air Force won in South Bend 41-24.
