(STATS) – Robert Morris has given coach John Banaszak a one-year contract extension through the 2017 football season, athletic director Dr. Craig Coleman announced Friday.
Banaszak, in the final year of his original three-year contract, has struggled since taking over for Joe Walton, the only previous coach in the Northeast Conference program’s history. The Colonials are 1-7 this season and 6-24 overall under Banaszak.
The former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive lineman served as an assistant coach under Walton for 11 seasons prior to taking over the top spot.
“Coach Banaszak has shown great leadership this year with a team that is extremely young and decimated with injury, and yet continues to improve and refuses to quit. This will lead to a resurgence of our program in the near future,” Coleman said.
Robert Morris hosts Central Connecticut State on Saturday.
