MADISON, Wis. (AP) – Melvin Gordon is taking on a new role this season at Wisconsin that has nothing to with his exceptional ability to run the ball.
It’s time for the junior tailback to take on more leadership as the Badgers get ready to begin training camp for another season with high expectations.
The nation’s second-leading returning rusher is the unquestioned star in Madison. He’ll also be the most experienced tailback, with former running mate James White now in the NFL with the New England Patriots.
Gordon looked up to White. Now Gordon is ready to help his talented backup, sophomore Corey Clement, take on a bigger role in the offense.
Coach Gary Andersen said Friday that he’s proud of how Gordon has turned into a leader. Practice begins Monday.
