STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) – Penn State quarterback Rob Bolden’s strongest attribute in his young career has been his poise in the pocket.
The freshman will need to stay cool Saturday night when the No. 22 Nittany Lions (3-1) visit No. 17 Iowa (3-1) and the Hawkeyes’ withering pass rush.
The 18-year-old Bolden is off to a promising start, completing 60 percent of his passes for 823 yards and three touchdowns. He’s also had his shaky moments, including five interceptions, and the offense has had trouble scoring touchdowns in the red zone.
Coach Joe Paterno said he’s impressed with Bolden’s grasp of the game and his quiet leadership, and that he just needs experience.
Bolden’s mother, Tonia Williams, said her son just carries over his calm temperament off the field into games.
