STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) -Penn State coach Joe Paterno was vague Thursday night when discussing what doctors told him the day before about his ailing right leg and hip.
“It’s not something that can’t be fixed,” Paterno said Thursday on his weekly radio show. “But it’s gonna be fixed. When we do it, I’m not sure.”
Paterno, 81, injured his leg while attempting an onside kick during a practice two days before Penn State’s season opening game against Coastal Carolina. He has coached the Nittany Lions’ last four games from the coaches’ booth of the press box and uses a golf cart to get around at practices.
No. 3 Penn State (9-0, 5-0 Big Ten) is off to its best start in nine seasons, ranked third in the BCS rankings behind Texas and Alabama. The Nittany Lions are idle this week, so Paterno visited with doctors Wednesday to have his leg and hip examined.
Paterno told reporters Tuesday that he wanted to wait until after Penn State wraps up its season to have any procedures done.
