SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) – The third-ranked Fighting Irish have needed overtime twice and haven’t won a game at Notre Dame Stadium by more than a touchdown, yet are still a win away from their first perfect home season in 14 years.
The Irish (10-0) need a win over Wake Forest (5-5) on Saturday to improve to 6-0 at home, the same record it had under coach Bob Davie in 1998.
Since then, the Irish had a 52-31 record at home in 13 seasons heading into this year. Coach Brian Kelly said Tuesday he hopes the Irish can someday put up the kind of home record as Oklahoma, which is 80-5 at home in 14 seasons under Bob Stoops. Asked if he thought that was possible, Kelly said: “Yeah, if I stay employed here long enough.”
