LOS ANGELES (AP) Los Angeles prosecutors have charged a man in connection with the theft of the University of Southern California’s copy of O.J. Simpson’s Heisman Trophy more than 20 years ago.
The Los Angeles district attorney says 56-year-old Lewis Eugene Starks Jr. tried to sell the trophy last year. He faces arraignment on one count of receiving stolen property.
Starks was arrested Monday and no phone listing could be found for him or a lawyer to comment on the allegation.
The trophy and a Simpson jersey were stolen in a burglary at the university in 1994 while Simpson was awaiting trial in the killings of his ex-wife and her friend Ron Goldman. He was acquitted of murder the following year.
The Heisman was the duplicate given to the university, not the one awarded to Simpson in 1968.
