LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -Louisville wide receiver Trent Guy expects to play this season despite being shot outside a local nightclub last month.
Guy said Saturday during the team’s annual media day that he has no plans to sit out the year and he could be cleared to practice with the team by early September.
Guy was shot in the back outside a parking garage near a nightclub in the early hours of July 5. He had surgery to remove the bullet and spent several days in the hospital. No arrests have been made.
Guy began running on Friday, though it will be several weeks before he can participate in a full practice. Coach Steve Kragthorpe said Guy’s recovery is remarkable and has helped pull the team together.
The Cardinals open the season on Aug. 31 against Kentucky.
