IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) -Iowa defensive end Broderick Binns was arrested early Friday and charged with drunken driving.
A police report says Binns was pulled over near campus by University Heights police for traffic violations. The report says Binns had watery eyes, smelled of alcohol and showed impaired speech and balance.
Police say the 20-year-old Binns initially denied drinking. He later acknowledged having several drinks and failed a preliminary breath test. The police report was first obtained by the Cedar Rapids Gazette.
Hawkeyes coach Kirk Ferentz issued a statement saying Binns will receive “some form” of suspension along with community service and counseling. He said he was “very disappointed to learn of the incident.”
Binns is a 6-foot-2, 261-pound junior from St. Paul, Minn. He had six sacks last season.
