MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -Gophers football is officially back on campus.
Minnesota’s inaugural game at TCF Bank Stadium began Saturday night against Air Force. It’s the first time the Gophers have played an outdoor home game since 1981. They played in the Metrodome downtown until this year.
The temperature at kickoff was 80 degrees, as a capacity crowd of 50,000 fans filled the horseshoe-shaped facility about a block away from where Memorial Stadium once stood.
More than 400 former players were on the field before the game. Family members of former players and coaches like Bronko Nagurski, Bernie Bierman and Bobby Bell were at the 50-yard line for the coin toss, serving as honorary captains for the night.
