STANFORD, California (AP) Kevin Hogan threw four touchdown passes and drove 13th-ranked Stanford University to the winning 45-yard field goal by Conrad Ukropina on the last play of a 38-36 victory over No. 4 Notre Dame in a college football playoff elimination game on Saturday.
Hogan threw for 269 yards and led the winning drive in the final 30 seconds for the Cardinal. Stanford needs to beat Southern California in the Pac-12 Conference championship game next week and then get help in the other title games to make the four-team college football playoff.
DeShone Kizer gave the Irish a one-point lead on his 2-yard run with 30 seconds left only to see Hogan drive Stanford to the winning score.
In other games, No. 5 Oklahoma beat No. 9 Oklahoma State 58-23 to likely gain a spot in the college football playoff, No. 1 Clemson beat South Carolina 37-32 to cap an undefeated regular season, No. 2 Alabama beat rival Auburn 29-13, and No. 6 Michigan State defeated Penn State 55-16.
Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score to lead the Sooners to the Big 12 Conference title.
Mayfield was knocked out of the previous game with a concussion but was fearless against the Cowboys, rushing for 77 yards and a touchdown. The Sooners gained 524 yards, including 344 on the ground, to claim their third win over a ranked opponent in three weeks.
Joe Mixon ran for 136 yards and two touchdowns and Samaje Perine had 131 yards and two scores for the Sooners.
In Columbia, South Carolina, Deshaun Watson ran for three touchdowns and passed for a fourth to keep the Tigers on track for a spot in the college football playoff.
Watson passed for 279 yards and ran for 114 overall.
Clemson improved to 12-0 for the first time since winning the 1981 national college championship and extended the nation’s best winning streak to 15 games.
Alabama’s Derrick Henry ran 46 times for 271 yards and Adam Griffith kicked five field goals to win the Southeastern Conference’s West title.
Henry, the Heisman Trophy contender, had his fourth 200-yard game of the season against an SEC defense. He extended his school-record streak of games with a rushing touchdown to 17 in the final minute.
Michigan State’s Connor Cook threw three touchdown passes in his return from a shoulder injury as the Spartans wrapped up a spot in the Big Ten Conference championship game.
The Spartans will play unbeaten Iowa for the conference title next weekend, with the winner in good position to advance to the college football playoff.
Cook went 19 of 26 for 248 yards.
Elsewhere, Ezekiel Elliott ran for 214 yards and two touchdowns as No. 8 Ohio State topped Michigan 42-13.
Dalvin Cook ran for 183 yards and two touchdowns and Roberto Aguayo kicked two long field goals as No. 14 Florida State upended No. 10 Florida 27-2.
Elijah Hood and T.J. Logan ran for touchdowns in a dominating first quarter as No. 11 North Carolina beat North Carolina State 45-34.
No. 17 Northwestern beat Illinois 24-14 and No. 19 Mississippi was also a winner against No. 23 Mississippi State, 38-27.
No. 22 UCLA was upset by Southern California 40-21.
