SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) – Defense wins championships, that’s football conventional wisdom.
This BCS championship game figures to blow away that old cliche.
No. 1 Auburn and No. 2 Oregon bring two of the most powerful and prolific offenses in the country into the national title game on Monday.
The defenses? Well, they’re OK, but with Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton and the Tigers averaging 42 points and 497 yards and the Ducks putting up 49 points and 537 yards, all signs point toward a wild night at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.
And all the talk of unstoppable offenses is enough to make a defensive coordinator’s head spin.
Oregon’s Nick Alioti says the defense that can get the most stops is probably going to win.
