Wake Forest Demon Deacons Game Notes

Wake Forest redshirt sophomore QB Sam Hartman has been effective at all areas of the field, and is gaining recognition for throws further downfield. Hartman (6’1/208) is continuing to have a strong campaign for both the Heisman Trophy and to become a top quarterback in a wide-open race in this year’s class. Hartman does a number of things well, as a passer and a runner as well when called upon, and the numbers tell the story of just how explosive he’s been as the Demon Deacons remain undefeated. According to Pro Football Focus, Hartman has been good for 20 completions on throws of 20 yards or more over just the past four weeks. That’s five more than any other college quarterback. So far this season, Hartman has completed 65.2% of his passes for 2,475 yards with 22 touchdowns and just three interceptions — he’ll look to keep up that level of performance as the team faces UNC this week.

North Carolina Tar Heels Game Notes

North Carolina junior QB Sam Howell completed 23-of-30 passes for 323 yards with a touchdown and an interception while rushing for 91 yards with a score in a 44-34 loss to Notre Dame on Saturday. Howell (6’4/225) had one of his better games on Saturday, but the UNC defense wasn’t nearly good enough for it to matter. He brought the Tar Heels to within four in the third with a 33-yard touchdown pass, while his rushing score was a 31-yard scramble to get North Carolina within a score at 41-34 in the middle of the fourth quarter. The interception was also costly, as it came late in the contest and ended another scoring opportunity. All interceptions do, of course. Howell and North Carolina fall to 4-4, and they have a tricky one coming up next week against undefeated Wake Forest.

Wake Forest vs. North Carolina Week 10 Betting Prediction

The Demon Deacons are just 1-4 against the spread in their last five games in Chapel Hill, while the home team is 6-1 against the number in the last seven meetings between these two teams. The Tar Heels, meanwhile, are 25-9 against the spread in their last 34 home games versus a team with a winning road record and have covered in eight of their last 11 games coming off a loss.

College Football Week 10 Prediction: NORTH CAROLINA TAR HEELS -2.5
