ND falls apart in Ann Arbor
Notre Dame had a three-game win streak ended last weekend in a 45-14 loss at Michigan in a rough showing for the Irish. They are now 5-2 on the season, 4-3 against the spread and 4-3 with the under.
The Fighting Irish have been respectable on offense and defense this year. The offense is averaging 35.6 points and 414.9 yards per game, while the defense is allowing 20.9 points and 360.7 yards per contest. Ian Book has thrown for 1,492 yards and 15 touchdowns while rushing for 201 yards and three scores. He was pulled during last week’s game, but Brian Kelly has said Book will remain the starter. Tony Jones Jr. is leading ND on the ground with 571 rushing yards and four touchdowns while Chase Claypool has caught 29 passes for 436 yards and four scores.
Hokies warming up
Virginia Tech is riding a three-game winning streak right now following a 43-41 OT win over North Carolina two weeks ago. The Hokies are now 5-2 on the season, 2-5 against the spread and 4-3 with the over.
The Hokies are middle of the road on offense and defense. Offensively, Virginia Tech is putting up 30.3 points and 395.1 yards per game while the defense is giving up 29.6 points and 396.3 yards per contest. Ryan Willis is leading the offense with 906 passing yards and nine touchdowns in limited starts. Deshawn McClease is the leading rusher with 475 yards and three touchdowns while Tayvion Robinson is the leading receiver with 24 catches for 267 yards and a score. Rayshard Ashby is leading the Tech defense with 71 tackles and three sacks.
College Football Betting Trends
Notre Dame
The Fighting Irish are 5-1 against the spread in their last six home games and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games following a loss.
Virginia Tech
The Hokies are 2-5 against the spread in their last seven non-conference games and 2-6 ATS in their last eight games in November.
Prediction:
Notre Dame picked up a 45-23 win at Virginia Tech last season, but the Hokies won 34-31 in their last visit to South Bend back in 2016. Virginia Tech is playing well right now with wins over Miami and North Carolina in recent weeks. The Irish haven’t looked terribly strong in four of their last five games. They haven’t pulled away from power-five programs, only beating Virginia by 15 at home while beating USC by just three. With Tech playing well and treating this like a big game, I think they will be ready to take advantage of an ND team that has to be questioning itself after being soundly pushed around by Michigan last week.
College Football Week 10 Prediction: Virginia Tech +17.5
