Hokies get rare home game
Virginia Tech is coming off a 22-19 win at North Carolina two weeks ago to move to 4-2 overall and 3-0 in the ACC. This will be their first home conference game and just third home game overall. Tech is 3-3 against the spread and 3-3 with the over/under total this year, but just 1-3 ATS in its last four games.
VT is having a good year on offense, averaging 32.8 points and 455.7 yards per game. Ryan Willis has played well in place of the injured Josh Jackson, as he has thrown for 1,057 yards and eight touchdowns. Steven Peoples is the leading rusher with 407 yards and five touchdowns while Damon Hazelton has 29 catches for 515 yards and five scores. Defensively, the Hokies are giving up 24.5 points and 418.7 yards per game. Their pass defense is allowing nearly 300 yards per game.
Jackets looking to bounce back
Georgia Tech is coming off a 28-14 loss at home to Duke to fall to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in the ACC. The Yellow Jackets are 2-5 against the spread and 4-3 with the over. They are just 1-2 ATS on the road.
On offense, the Yellow Jackets are putting up 37.4 points and 453.4 yards per game. They have one of the top rushing attacks in the nation, averaging 352.4 yards per game. Quarterback TaQuon Marshall has a team-high 598 rushing yards with nine touchdowns while throwing for 645 yards and three scores. Jordan Mason and Tobias Oliver also have over 440 rushing yards each with 11 combined touchdowns. GT is allowing 28.3 points and 366.7 yards per game on defense.
College Football Betting Trends
Virginia Tech
Virginia Tech is 11-5 against the spread in its last 16 home games and 4-1 ATS in its last five following a bye.
Georgia Tech
Georgia Tech is 1-7 against the spread in its last eight games on grass and 1-4-1 ATS in its last six road games.
Prediction:
Georgia Tech has won and covered the spread in three of the last four meetings and five of the last six meetings have been decided by seven points or less. These two just play close games. In its last home game, Virginia Tech was beaten down by Notre Dame and the Irish run game. While the Hokies have struggled more with the pass, I think they could struggle with the Tech rushing attack tonight. VT won’t be able to pull away in this game and I will take Georgia Tech with the points in a game that has a lot of competitive history.
College Football Prediction: Georgia Tech +3.5
